Master in Psychology of Sustainable Development

The Master’s program in Psychology of Sustainable Development aims to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and methodological skills necessary to understand the human dimension of sustainable development. In the context of the increasing climate changes observed in recent years, the development of a more sustainable lifestyle has become one of the most urgent tasks facing humanity. The psychology of sustainable development examines the factors that lead individuals to consume, make decisions, and behave in ways that either improve or degrade the state of our biosystem and the well-being of current and future generations.

The curriculum offers an in-depth analysis of the individual determinants of behavior related to sustainable development (such as values, emotions, norms, beliefs, cognitive biases, heuristics, and social influences). In addition, it equips students with the expertise needed to develop effective intervention strategies to promote sustainable behaviors, thereby providing a “toolbox” of various approaches (such as persuasion and information strategies, motivational strategies, and nudging techniques).

Students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge through an internship and a series of applied practical assignments.

In terms of career prospects, there is a growing demand from practitioners and policy makers to better understand the human component of sustainable development. The program prepares students for professional roles that involve developing and implementing solutions to environmental problems that are both effective and socially acceptable.

Potential career opportunities include:

  • Sustainability consultant
  • Environmental communication and education
  • Design and evaluation of intervention
  • Sustainable development policy advising
  • Public policy evaluation
  • Behavioral specialist in environmental organizations
  • Marketing
  • Doctoral research
